Trivia from Mad Men - Free Edition - 1 Star

What is it?
Simply put, this game is a quiz to test your knowledge on Mad Men, the brilliant 60’s based drama about ad men in the 60s/70s. You begin the game by pressing the ‘play’ option, and then you are plunged straight into answering questions. You start on Level 1, and you level up based on your success with the questions posed. You are given the question with a choice of four possible answers below it. Get the question right and you are awarded with points in the form of dollars, get the question wrong and you lose points. The annoying part of the points feature is that you don’t actually know your score until you complete all of the questions. If you have detail OCD, you will hate the frequent spelling mistakes and the wrong surnames or forenames. Some of the questions repeat which is disappointing as, over the seven series’ of the show, there are plenty of questions that could be created!
There are a set number of questions and there hasn’t been an update to increase the questions.
Arguably the most frustrating thing about this game is the ads. The game is incessant with them, for instance when you press ‘Play’ to begin the game, the first thing that comes up is an ad, which did make me feel VERY frustrated. Whatever you do don’t get a question wrong as you get a series of screen invading adverts and pop ups, with the highest number I counted being five in a row.
If you haven’t watched Mad Men then do not download, you won’t get a single question right and the in app features alone will annoy you! If you hate adverts, then also avoid this app

Ease of use 3
The game is pretty basic to play, tap the answer that you think is right. What makes the game difficult is the inaccuracies in the questions and the adverts that you have to dodge to actual play it.

The app is free.

Adverts are terrible, undoubtedly some of the worst I have seen within an app and completely destroys what could be an excellent app for Mad Men fans.

Overall Rating 1
This app is literally about to be deleted as I publish the review, and I can’t wait to press that button. I have completed the game and felt no sense of achievement in doing so. The developers had a great topic and concept but ruined with sloppiness and awful adverts. Such a shame!

Movie Quiz! - 2 Stars

What is it?
This is a movie guessing game which shows you a a still scene from a film and you pick the answer from a selection of four options.

The idea of the game is to win as many coins as you can, so that you can compete against your friends or other people with the app. You can either play offline, where you cannot earn coins, or online but you need to use your collected coins to compete. Beware you can lose coins on the offline training for wrong answers, as I found out when I let my friend have a go!

I had some difficulty playing online and I think it depends what time of day you try to connect due to the user base. This limited me earning coins and competing with other users. Playing against random people is hit and miss and limited to five questions which is five coins per go.

When you run out of coins you can't earn any as you need to play online, which involves you needing 25 coins, which means you have to buy them. You can earn a coin per minute spent in the app, which means staying on the main menu, because if you go to offline training you cannot earn any.  So if you don't like paid apps this one has a limited shelf life.

The more you play the more the movies repeat, so if you have a good memory its easier to beat your opponent. I was looking forward to this game as I love movies, but the limited number of people to play and the repeating of film options made it lose its appeal.

Ease of use -
This is pretty simple to use as pictures are displayed and there are four answers to chose from. The interface to play online against random components or friends on the Game Centre is really simple.

This is a free app but has limited content. You are provided with coins when you start but if you lose them you will need to buy more to continue, I didn't buy any additional credit.

Adverts - 3
There are adverts when you open the game the pop up and a constant banner at the bottom of the screen. The adverts are not as intrusive as other apps I have played and they never distracted me from the game.  You can pay to remove them.

I like the idea of this app as I like movie themed games, but as an offline player there are limited questions. The multiplayer game is ok, but is limited in the number of questions and is temperamental as to when it will work.

Icon Pop Quiz - Halloween Special - 2.5 Stars

What is it?
This like Icomania, it's a game where you guess the famous people, hit movies or TV shows. The biggest difference being that the answers are not hidden in an anagram, you just guess by typing in the word you think is relevant.

There are different stages that you can access and swap between, for example Famous People, TV & Films, Characters, Season's Box and Specials. Each of these sections are split between different stages, with 16 levels in each stage.

When you access a selection of 16 levels you click on the icon, then using the keyboard type in the answer. There are indicators if you are close to getting the answer right, but if like me you can have dodgy spelling, you quickly get annoyed and end up on Google.

Each time you get an answer right you earn tokens. These tokens can then be used to Open Letters (400 tokens), Resolve (2000 tokens), Hint (200 tokens) and Eliminate Keys (300 tokens).  Don't worry if you haven't got enough tokens, you can buy some, what a surprise! You can even buy a version of the app without adverts, or even unlock all of the levels.

If you get stuck you can ask your friends on Twitter and Facebook, which doesn't ask you to join a like page or send updates to friends. The only advertising is a link to the app in the post of the picture.

Due to the spelling issues and the vagueness of some of the answers this could easily turn frustrating or expensive if you become addicted! Personally I prefer Icomania, but this app is ok for a bit of fun.

Ease of use 3
This is an easy app to navigate but the answers to the quiz can be very difficult and one misplaced letter will stop you collecting your coins. Due to the frequency of the adverts you can find yourself accidentally entering the App Store, or be directed to a web page or two.

This is free to download but has in app sales. You can upgrade to a ad free version which I didn't review. You can also buy additional tokens for cheats within the games, which aren't very expensive but could add up over time!

Adverts 2
There are quite a few adverts in this game which I am not a fan of. Banners at the bottom page, full screen pop ups with delayed options to close and poster sales for films you guess correctly! There is also the option to earn additional tokens if you are willing to watch the video adverts. The adverts are not as invasive as Scrabble Free, hence the rating of 2!

Keep, jury is out or delete - Jury is out
This is an ok game, but it is frustrating and I will not pay for additional tokens. Once you need to Google the answers it loses its appeal for me. I do prefer Icomania but this is an ok alternative.
